Weekenders

Last weekend we went to Old Saybrook

VALEX

and then got my car washed at the Magic Spray

Magic Spray

But this weekend was different. I took Mrs. Cupcakes to the airport at 5:30 am on Saturday so she could fly to LA to get on a big ol' boat. She's on a sock knitting cruise this week. Wait for the pictures, I'm sure that's the only thing that will do the experience justice.

Anyway, my Saturday was spent napping and attending a fine little potluck dinner. Sunday consisted of hanging out with the lonely cats, and attending, for the first time ever, the Middletown Flea Market. Speaking of pictures doing justice, I don't know where to begin. They hold it inside an old supermarket, but none of the interior has been redone, they just have people set up their "booths" and wares in a space and away you go. Really, just check out the link above for the photos.

And Sunday evening I went to BAR in New Haven with Ethan to see a free show starring Acid Mother Temple, all the way from Japan. Pictures. Good pizza and good music that New Haven has.

choc-o-tastic easter

PEEPS!

For Elvis' Birthday we received a chocolate fountain from this man, Mr. Funorama himself:

Ethan has funorama

We hadn't taken the time to set it up and use it, but we kept threatening to, so Easter Sunday seemed like a perfect opportunity to get some Peeps and try it out.

Ready? Set...

Setup is relatively easy, involving several plastic parts that form the tower, and then you need to preheat the machine for 5 minutes. We microwaved 3 bags of chocolate chips, half a chocolate bunny, and 10 oz. of canola oil (manditory to keep things flowing) to add to the bowl, and then you switch on the motor.

The chocolate is then carried up the center of the tower with an Archimedes' Screw, and cascades back down to the heated bowl.

Cascading

Then you skewer some Peeps and off you go.

Other things were fountained as well, including fruit (good) & bread (also good). The plain marshmallows were not needed as it turns out. Everyone was either all in or all out on the Peeps, no compromise.

Chocolatables

After all the brunching and fountaining we were wrapping things up and someone noticed there was someone else outside in the driveway taking pictures. So I took her picture. So there.

Episode 450, or "Weekend at Brefanie's"

I was in Baltimore/Annapolis this weekend, and I'm still uploading the pictures to flickr, but I did pick up some tasty used CDs.

Money Mark - Brand New By Tomorrow
Lambchop - No You Cmon
Longwave - There's A Fire
Mike Watt - The Secondman's Middle Stand
Spiritualized - Let It Come Down

I picked up Lambchop on a whim because they're on Merge Records, and I got Longwave because the cover has an octopus illustration on it. We also spent the weekend listening to Amy Winehouse's stuff, which isn't lyricaly timeless, but soulfully sounds at least a few decades old, in a good way.

Photos soon...
