7 Weeks




Thoughts...

• as challenging as the days and nights can be, I'm so glad to be figuring out our own schedule, together, at home, without medical complications for mama or baby. Good fortune.

• baby smiles fracture my heart, and then put it back together one size larger than it was

• oh, yeah, birth story "notes" — I had foolishly dropped off my Subaru the night before the blizzard labor began, so we braved the drifts in the little Corolla that could — shoveling the driveway at 4am while your wife is in labor is a great stress reliever — going from "hours of labor" to "hour of c-section" is not stress relieving as you might think — I can only imagine how it feels to have a nurse grab your breast while telling you "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG" in broad daylight, but to be woken in the middle of the night by crying baby and suddenly experience a stranger kneading your breast, well, I just hope never to find out — I think I dug 2 cars out of 4 snowbanks that weekend...

• You can't take too many pictures. You can be this guy, and video everything for the first three years, but that makes you a cognitive scientist whether you started out as one or not
