Val in a box! We took a little drive from Deerfield, IL to the rich(er) lakeside community of Glencoe and walked around a bit, looking at giant houses. We walked to the main drag to find some lunch and stopped for this photo op at the train station.

Our wait time at Hertz was worth it. Our "economy" rental was upgraded to a Toyota Avalon, and we had a luxury ride for the weekend. I bought three CDs to take full advantage of the situation and really enjoy the ride. Aimee Mann I'm with Stupid, Pixies Complete B Sides, and a Ravonnettes 8 song disc, Whip It On.

Segway Guy, having a beer, on the Segway, in the bar.

Segway Guy at the bar...

I'll be in Chicago this weekend for the wedding of Anastasia Yvonne Masurat & Timothy Douglas Carnahan, aka CARNURAT. Should be fun, but any of my moblogging photos will come through like the one below of Joseph, with the image and "This is a MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) message." as the only text, THANKYOUVERYMUCHSUNCOM. I'll add caption text, but you'll have to click the image and check out the extra info over at flickr. Oh, and there was a guy in the bar I was at tonight on a Segway. Drinking beer. And arguing for his right to be there, doing just that. There's some more to the story over on David's blog.

SunCom is a real buzzkill. Besides all the difficulty I've had switching to them (mandatory) from AT&T, now none of my mobblogging works right, and I still can't access my voicemail. Grrrrrrr. Not many of you will know anything about this, since SunCom is the heir to the AT&T wireless accounts only in NC and SC. I had a newish Motorola V505, called them and they said, ok you just need a new SIM card, we'll get that right out to you. Sent, received, I called back to make the switch and the person who finally answered said, ok, you can't just use a new SIM card you need a new phone. A new phone of the same phone I already had. Except now it's a crappier phone because it has a SunCom SIM card in it.

ANYWAY... some very successful Gocco printing has been taking place. I tried to post t-shirt pics, but of course that didn'tsuncomwork. David has some nice images of one eveningsworth of printing HERE. Motorcycles make great subject matter. Mostly because they're cool, but also because there's so much motorcycle crapart out there.

Babybird is dead. Long live babybird.

5.20.2005

I didn't post this before, but, things are looking up, so...

Baby bird found on lawn. Toyed with by neighbor cat, but seemed physically unharmed. TestNest™ built by yours truly, inserted bird, placed TestNest© in tree.

I went to check on babybird yesterday morning, and there was the little yellow beak, open and hungry for regurgitated worms! I went back after work last night, and found this:

I took three pictures, exactly like this one.

I assumed it was dead. From fear, internal injuries, or any number of things. I left the nest up overnight and started making funeral arrangements.

I did take another picture this morning, however, to see what was up in the nest, and I got the hungry yellow beak again! Hooray! Babybird lives! Babybird lives!

The happy beak.

I wanted to check, because everytime I've gone back over to the TestNest® staging grounds, a noisy and very agitated mama and/or papa bird have made their presence known.

I hope this means they know right where the little one is and that they can get in there and feed it.

Sigh. But in a good way this time.

Ugh.

Ugh.

Work is for suckers. Sigh.

Ellen and Brad waiting for our table at Aki Hana, our neighborhood sushi joint. This was for Brad's birthday. We had sake and sushi and then went to the OCSC for a nightcap.

So, I'm not quite a month behind here, but my weekends have been full, so I haven't been in front of the computer nearly as much.

Last weekend I took Saturday off from the camera shop to spend time with Val, since she has but two weekends that are relatively school free between end of spring semester and beginning of summer school. We ended up being pretty overbooked for a Saturday off, but it turned out ok. We voluntered to help set up for the Independent Animal Rescue Painted Chair Auction in the morning, and then we had a 6pm birthday BBQ dinner followed by b-day cake and bourbon followed by the Neil Diamond All-Stars farewell performance at the Cat's Cradle. The festivities were masterminded by Dean, whose 50th birthday was on 05/05/05.

Sunday was GOCCO day. David came over to check out the Gocco printer that has been sitting in it's box ever since I got it. I had mentioned postcard printing or somesuch thing to him at one point and said I had a Gocco that had yet to be put to use. He really wanted to check it out, so we set up a "mandate" for Sunday to see how it worked.

The last monthsworth of Saturdays or so have been full of crafting of a different sort, BEER brewing. I am only a humble observer of the craft for the most part, but Brad has brewed before, and was ready to do another batch. I'm still organizing the photo essay on that project, but we also still have a week or two to go until the bottled beer has reached "natural carbonation maturity". It was delicious uncarbonated, so I have high hopes.

The OTHER thing we did amongst the brewing was play some bocce ball. The first game with Brad and David and myself was at Stef and Brad's house on the slightly rocky terrain. Chapel Hill, however, has some fine bocce ball courts, complete with their own bocce parking. The action is all here.
